Terms of Service

Welcome to Techne. These Terms of Service govern your use of Techne, a learn-by-building software-education platform operated by Jonathan Hines Dumitru (“Techne”, “we”, “us”), available at www.techne.study. By creating an account or using the platform, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use Techne.

1. Your Account & Access

Techne is currently invite-only and in private beta. Access is granted to specific email addresses on our allowlist. You must provide accurate information, keep your login credentials secure, and are responsible for all activity under your account. Do not share your account or your invite with others.

• Attempt to break out of, overload, or misuse the code-execution sandbox, or use it to run anything unrelated to learning on Techne.

• Attempt to extract, jailbreak, or manipulate the AI tutor or grader into giving answers, leaking prompts, or bypassing mastery gates.

• Scrape, resell, or redistribute Techne’s lessons, curriculum, or content, or share your credentials to misrepresent someone else’s work as your own.

• Submit unlawful, infringing, or malicious code, or use the platform to harm Techne, other learners, or third parties.

2. Your Content & Our Content

You keep ownership of the code and project work you create on Techne. You grant us a limited license to store, execute, and process that work so we can run, grade, and give feedback on it, and to operate and improve the platform. Everything else: the lessons, curriculum, concept graph, tutor, and software all belong to Techne and its licensors and is provided to you under a limited, personal, non-transferable license for your own learning.

You are responsible for the code and content you submit. Do not upload anything you don’t have the right to use, and don’t include real secrets, personal data, or sensitive credentials in your submissions. The sandbox is for learning, not production data.

3. Plans & Billing

The Free plan lets you audit lessons and run ungraded practice. A paid Pro subscription unlocks the graded path that advances mastery and issues credentials. Pricing shown on the site applies when billing is enabled; during the invite-only beta, plan access may be provisioned manually and is subject to change. We may update features and content at any time to keep quality high.

4. Cancellation

You can cancel a paid subscription at any time from your account and will keep Pro access through the end of the current billing period. If you believe you were billed in error, contact us and we’ll make it right.

5. Beta, Disclaimers & Liability

Techne is provided “as is” and, during the beta, may change, break, or lose data without notice; credentials issued in beta may be reissued or revoked as the platform matures. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Techne and its operator are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the platform, and our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.
